Verstappen takes Formula One auto for a spin on Alpine ski slope
It’s an RB7 from the 2011 season, previously driven by Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber for the main Red Bull Racing team. The Toro Rosso driver was taking part in a demonstration for Red Bull at a ski festival in Austria.
He later became the youngest driver to ever score points after finishing seventh at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
It’s not every day you see an F1 auto halfway up a mountain, but Max Verstappen showed just what Red Bull machinery can do with some chains attached. An F1 vehicle is accustomed to racing in hot weather, so in addition to making special snow tyres for the auto, the team had to re-tune the engine and adjust the set-up to make it possible for Max to handle the auto in the snow. “It was very cool to do it was a different road for me”, said Verstappen.
Apparently, the auto was air lifted onto the mountain and equipped with studded tires and snow chains, but it’s still pretty insane Verstappen managed to pull off this stunt without flying right off the face of the insanely steep mountain.
Sure, Red Bull could’ve used a more modern touch, going for snow socks, but we doubt the impact would’ve been the same. “We don’t think about why things aren’t happening, but rather how they can happen”. You can see what happened in the video embedded below.
You can only imagine what was going through Max Verstappen’s head when he took the Red Bull RB7 to the slopes of Kitzbuhel.
