A soulless lunatic opened fire on innocent students at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon Thursday, killing at least 10 before and wounding seven before responding officers took him out. She and his cousin, Derek Bourgeois in North Carolina, told Reuters that Mintz is a fitness buff who likes to bodybuild and practices recreational mixed martial arts.
Witnesses say Mintz was trying to block the gunman from coming through a door when he was shot the first three times and was then shot several more times while on the ground. The gunman responded by shooting him twice more, but couldn’t kill Mintz.
According to the Daily Beast, a almost unconscious Mintz kept repeating, “It’s my son’s birthday, it’s my son’s birthday”, before being rushed to the hospital.
The UCC student was in class when the shooting started in Snyder Hall.
“During the shooting both of his legs were broken and he is going to have to go through a ton of physical therapy”, said Mintz’s family wrote on the page.
He has two rods in his legs, she said, and is going to be in a wheelchair for the foreseeable future.
“Chris asked me to thank everyone for their support”, the message reads. But Army veteran Chris Mintz quickly recognized the threat.
“He was on the wrestling team and and he’s done cage-fighting so it does not surprise me that he would act heroically”, Sheila Brown told NBC News on Friday.
Wanda Mintz says of her nephew, a former football player and wrestler, “I really think that if he wasn’t such a strong, young guy, he may have died”. He has one son, Tyrik, who turned six years old on Thursday.
Chris Mintz, 30, is an Army veteran who lived in Tacoma about 10 years ago while stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, according to Mintz’s brother.

One simply said, “Sounds like something he’d do”. Mintz is now recovering from surgery.
