Veterans reading to students at local elementary school
On Veterans Day, several local schools will take time out of schedules to pay tribute to veterans, including Maysville Community and Technical College where its Veteran’s Day celebration will get underway at 9 a.m., on the MCTC Maysville Campus.
Concluding the presentation will be the firing of a gun salute and the sounding of taps on the north side of the Reedsville Elementary/Middle School at 11 a.m. Guest speaker will be Michael Slusser.
In honor of Veterans Day, Culver’s of Manitowoc is offering a free single scoop of custard for veterans between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., Wednesday, November 11. “Memorial Day is to honor the vets who didn’t come home, and Veterans Day is to honor all the rest”.
Veterans and active duty military members will receive their choice of either a full-service wash at full-service locations only or an ultimate exterior wash at all locations.
Students across the Tennessee Valley are learning about Veterans Day and showing those in and out of service how much they mean to us all. In addition to the dinner, a musical program will be presented by Tanner Young from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. All veterans, particularly those over age 50, are invited to attend, but must reserve a spot by calling the senior center at 903-892-7316.
Bracken County Schools have a joint program featuring tributes to veterans at 9 a.m.at the high school gym.
At the Wellness Center, Navicent Health, on Northside Drive, there will be a complimentary continental breakfast for veterans from 7-8 a.m., as well as a free wellness day for veterans from noon to 4 p.m. Nonmembers who are veterans will be able to access all services, including the pool, walking track, cardio and weight equipment.
Unity-N-Community partners will provide a free lunch for veterans from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.at Me Maw’s, 4254 Mumford Road. Spouses and families are asked to give a $6 donation per meal. Current military and veterans will be honored. Guest speaker will be Bishop Charles Brown Sr. of New Birth C.O.P. Church in Sherman.
