Vick has “tiny tear” in hamstring, expects to be out this week
Cardinals Steelers Live Streaming NFL Football Week 6 TV schedule on October, 18th, 2015The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for their second consecutive win without their star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on Sunday as the visiting opposition AZ Cardinals hope to remain on their hot pace without a few pivotal contributors. He left in the third quarter with a hamstring injury.
Of course, Kinkhabwala’s tweet leaves the door slightly open for Vick to suit up on Sunday, but considering Jones outperformed Vick on the way to a victory, it’d be surprising if he dressed in anything more than an emergency role.
Pittsburgh Steelers free safety Mike Mitchell (23) intercepts a pass in the end-zone intended for/ Arizona Cardinals wide receiver John Brown (12) during the fourth quarter at Heinz Field.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Landry Jones (3) plays in the second half of a game against the Arizona. It would be the only score of the first quarter. Jones connected with Bryant across the middle, who then proceeded to run 60+ yards to the end zone for an 88 yard touchdown, clinching the victory for the team.
The next four drives saw nothing special; a Cardinals punt, a Steelers field goal, a Cardinals field goal, and anther Steelers field goal. Carson Palmer threw for 400-plus yards and had not touchdown to show for it. He threw for two touchdowns, but needed one more completion when rookie cornerback Damarious Randall lunged to poke away Rivers’ short pass to Danny Woodhead near the front right pylon in the final seconds.
Jones hit Bryant for an eight-yard score to give the Steelers the lead. On one Steelers drive, Arizona gifted them 35 yards and a field goal by Chris Boswell that cut Arizona’s lead to 7-3.
While Michael Vick as filling in for the injured Ben Roethlisberger, it’s common sense that he was just holding the spot until Big Ben returns. They were flagged nine times for 111 yards. The Cardinals would fumble just two plays later, giving the Steelers the ball at the Arizona 32. Yet the NFL’s highest scoring team also turned it over three times, scored just one touchdown on four trips in the red zone and let the Steelers (4-2) hang around for far too long.
Really, Pittsurgh’s defense kept them in the game in the first half.
With Roethlisberger sidelined for a third straight game due to a knee injury, back-up quarterback Mike Vick started, but proved ineffective before being replaced by Jones in the third quarter. He ran the offense like a Big Ben’s little brother. That’s just unacceptable if you are the Cardinals defense. The third-string quarterback benefitted from the return of Martavis Bryant who had 137 yards off six catches and two touchdowns.
Of more concern to the Steelers might be a different injury: Left tackle Kelvin Beachum is done for the season after tearing a ligament in his left knee. My one knock is that the decision to go for two, instead of kicking the extra point to put yourself up by a field goal, could have proven costly. After that, they travel to Kansas City to play against the Chiefs.
