Victim fatally stabbed, suspect killed by officers in Potsdam
According to Potsdam Police, units arrived to the apartment in the Swan Landing Apartment complex in the Village of Potsdam around 2:45 p.m. Thursday. Troopers say that when officers arrived, they found Massachusetts on top of Jiang, stabbing her and himself.
New York State Police and the St. Lawrence County district attorney were assisting with the investigation.
However, neither he nor any of the other officers would identify any of those involved and would not provide further details. State police said the man refused several times to drop the knife and that one of the officers fired his weapon at the man, hitting and killing him.
The female was pronounced dead at Canton Potsdam Hospital of multiple stab wounds.
Joanna Zhou, a Clarkson student who lives in the apartment complex, said she heard three or four gunshots.
Clarkson University officials say both Massachusetts and Jiang were graduate students from China. The statement said police told the college the incident was a domestic dispute that didn’t pose a threat to the campus.
The school said those who need grief counseling services are encouraged to reach out to the university’s counseling center staff.
