Victor Cruz Unlikely For Preseason Opener
Yet now the New York Giants wide receiver is proclaiming himself healthy, this despite missing Tuesday with a groin injury.
For Beckham, any questions about lingering soreness from his lower leg injury suffered three practices into camp have been answered emphatically with multiple highlight-reel touchdown catches from Eli Manning in the last two practices since his return over the weekend.
His attempted comeback from a devastating knee surgery 22 months ago was derailed last summer by a calf injury, one that placed even more doubt on his football future.
Ben McAdoo, who will be debuting as the team’s head coach on Friday, was not so much into game-planning for the first preseason game.
This will also be the last time before Friday that McAdoo is scheduled to meet the media – offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan and special teams coordinator Tom Quinn will be the only members of the coaching staff with news conferences on Wednesday.
Cruz continues to say that his body feels good, but people won’t believe that until he actually gets back on the field.
Cruz has been attempting a come back since he sustained a torn patellar tendon in Week 6 of the 2014 National Football League season.
The Giants don’t seem overly concerned with Cruz, at least not for the time being. In fact, since that training camp-opening interception, Manning has not yet thrown another. He said the injury was a typical training camp problem, adding the important thing for him is to listen to his body.
“We are not going to spend a whole lot of time on Miami”, McAdoo said.
“I didn’t want to potentially make it worse so I told the training staff and they shut me down”, he said. “It’s not just one person making that decision”.
“I wish it was the third preseason game, but I wish all those guys the best for the upcoming season”, Vernon said of his old teammates. “I went through one of my biggest workloads last week and came back the next day and practiced and everything felt good – no pain, no ailments, nothing like that”. – Jordan Raanan, ESPN.com Giants coach Ben McAdoo has emphasized competition throughout his first training camp, maintaining that practice reps in early August at the open positions don’t equate to which players have the edge to be starting September 11 in Dallas. His performance on the field has shown signs that his explosive moves at receiver might be coming back. “I’m excited about that. I think the only expectation is for me to come out here, feel like myself, be in and out of my breaks, run proper routes, be at the proper depths of what I need to do from an assignment perspective and then let everything else take care of itself”. “Obviously they’ll continue to get better as the reps go up”.
