Video app Meerkat to allow live-streaming from GoPro cameras
The app enables users to stream live video from their mobile device, with the clips staying available for 72 hours after the broadcast ends.
Live streaming is the next big thing, but Meerkat has seemingly lost the battle as Twitter’s Periscope, which caught the public’s attention at the same time as Meerkat, continues to enjoy the most attention.
Only GoPro3 and GoPro4 will be supported by the app at first.
The functionality is now available in the Meerkat iOS app, of which the next app update will bring in support for the HERO4.
Earlier this month, Meerkat introduced a feature called “Cameo”, which lets any viewer take control of a live stream.
The app’s interface works in a similar way to the likes of Periscope, encouraging users to like posts and interact with other posters.
The latest integration between app and hardware is happening with a partnership between Meerkat and GoPro. Meerkat is reportedly working to add support for the feature to the Android platform in the near feature.
And whether Twitter-owned Periscope follows suit with a GoPro play of its own will be worth watching-though it seems likely.
