Video catches lightning bolt hitting Delta plane in Atlanta
As a thunderstorm passes over Atlanta, Jack Perkins, a traveler who was waiting for his flight at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta global Airport decides to film the scene on the tarmac outside.
Generally speaking, lightning strikes are rare and do not represent a real threat to military and civil planes, even though, in the 1980s, some F-16 Fighting Falcon jets were lost after being hit.
“While filming the line of planes all stacked up during a ground hold in Atlanta on [Tuesday] I happened to capture this direct lightning strike on a 737” Perkins explained on YouTube.
There were no reports of injuries among the 111 customers and six crew, Durrant said.
An airline passenger in the US has captured the moment a bolt of lightning struck a plane on the runway.
Aircraft are protected from lightning strikes because they’re essentially Faraday cages, which means they both block and redistribute external electric fields.
