Video emerges of Tuscaloosa cop reportedly beating and tasering Alabama student
Videos showing police violently arresting University of Alabama students at an apartment in Tuscaloosa, apparently over a noise complaint, have gone viral on the college’s campus, with many asking whether the use of force was necessary.
The video contains graphic content.
The incident took place at 3:19 a.m. (on Sunday) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. We can’t tell whether or not the police entered the premises without a warrant, but if this was truly a noise complaint, there’s not much chance of a preexisting warrant.
The students also refused to leave, and an officer grabs one of them and yanks him outside before barging into the residence. The incident turns chaotic as the officer pulls the student outside.
“The cop came in without knocking, couldn’t tell them why they’re being arrested, abused their authority completely”, one witness wrote in a text message shared with The Daily Caller.
The officer tries to grab the student, who steps back out of the doorway, and the officer steps through the door and takes out his Taser. The officer is asked multiple times whether anyone is being arrested or detained, and eventually indicates that one male is under arrest, but does not say under what charges. The videos depict other police officers arriving and pulling the the suspect and two other people out of the property.
Update, 10:37 pm: A longer video of the conversation leading up to the students’ arrest has been uploaded to Youtube.
“I don’t have to have a warrant”, the officer shouts, and several students inside remind him that he does.
And a student who posted one of the videos said, “Tuscaloosa Police proving once again they view UA students as nothing but a nuisance”.
