Video of man singing opera while undergoing brain surgery
The doctors at the University Medical Center Utrecht asked Ambroz Bajec-Lapajne to sing in order to monitor his ability to vocalize and recognize the key change during the brain tumor surgery.
Slovenian opera singer Ambroz Bajec-Lapajne has posted a video on YouTube of him singing Gute Nacht by Schubert while undergoing awake brain surgery.
A video of the surgery uploaded to Mr Bajec-Lapajne’s YouTube account on August 5 has since gone viral, accumulating more than 191,000 hits. But over in the Netherlands, a Slovenian opera singer decided that the best way to get through his brain surgery (italicized to the max), was to quite literally-sing through it.
Bajec-Lapajne explained that his neurosurgeon advised him to undergo the procedure awake, in order to avoid any negative effects it might have on his career. I believe he rewired my brain for a while and that was the result.
‘It was a very weird feeling’.
Partway through the song Mr Bajec-Lapajne’s voice comes to a halt, like a cassette player running out of batteries, and his eyes appear to glaze over.
The operatic operation was apparently performed a year ago, and according to The Daily Mail, Ambroz reports that he is doing fine and continues to sing professionally.
