Video of UConn student’s rant about mac and cheese goes viral
Police took Gatti into custody and learned through statement that Gatti had been refused service due to drinking alcohol in the market.
A student from the University of Connecticut was arrested after he had a confrontation with a food court manager at the campus’ Union Street Market in Storrs Sunday evening.
His dinner request – where he demands a few “f-king jalapeno bacon mac and cheese” from a campus cafeteria worker – went viral with more than 2.7 million views.
In a nine-minute video posted to YouTube Monday and laced with profanity, the 19-year-old from Bayville, New York, confronts several cafeteria employees and even starts a physical altercation.
Federal privacy laws prevent UConn from commenting on whether Gatti faces any university sanctions, UConn spokeswoman Stephanie Reitz said. Gatti asks someone off camera.
The manager then retaliated by telling Gatti, who was under the influence: “You can’t come in here with an open bottle of booze, dude”.
“How old are you?” asks the manager. It is only when Gatti shoves the man for the second time that another worker intervenes, wrestling the teen to the ground.
Despite repeated insults, the manager of the food court remains calm.
As the officer handcuffed him, Gatti can be heard proclaiming, “I am absolutely F-ed”.
Gatti is scheduled to appear in court October 13, according to the Courant.
“Generally speaking, any UConn student found to have violated the provisions of the Student Code may face penalties imposed by the Division of Student Affairs that range from probation to expulsion”, Reitz told the newspaper. Gatti was previously a student at the University of Massachusetts and was twice arrested previous year on disorderly conduct charges, according to the Daily Hampshire Gazette in Northampton, Massachusetts.
And it is not the first time Gatti has thrown a tantrum that landed him in trouble with police.
