Vigilance Awareness Week at BHEL
The run was organised as a precursor to the Vigilance Awareness Week which is going to be observed from 26 October 2015 till 31 October 2015. Union Bank of India CMD Arun Tiwari said that “the need for increased vigilance for detecting instances of corruption and fighting against them should start from the self”.
Parida said this after administering oath to officials while launching the vigilance awareness at the chief secretariat here. The main characteristics of good governance are transparency, accountability following rule of law, being inclusive, effective and efficient good governance and preventive vigilance share characteristics and therefore preventive vigilance needs to be implemented as a tool of Good Governance. For this, Acharya said “regular/surprise checks and inspections, discreet watch upon officers of doubtful integrity, to ensure rotation of officials in sensitive positions, educating officers to take clean, honest, effective and transparent decision would go a long way in improvement to our entire system of governance”. He also encouraged management/institution to be interested in preventive vigilance measures.
He asserted that it was critical that “awareness” is generated and public opinion is developed on the evils of corruption.
The Vigilance Commission is concentrating to generate major awareness among the students and youth for building a society aware of corruption and how it can stopped. “It is appropriate that the Commission has adopted the theme of “Preventive Vigilance as a tool of Good Governance” for the current year”, the President said.
