Vijayawada: Five dead, three critical after consuming illicit liquor
With eight people losing their lives at Krishna Lanka area in Vijayawada on Monday after they consumed illicit liquor, AP Government has taken action against adulterated liquor in the state by ordering closure of all wine shops in Krishna district. The condition of a few was stated to be critical.
Reportedly, all the victims are the daily wage workers, who had a habit of consuming liquor everyday, before going to work. Three of them collapsed on the spot and died.
When Krishna District Collector Babu A. visited some tribal villages in the district, some women had complained that some locals were brewing illicitly distilled (ID) liquor there.
Shockingly, the bar is located close to the Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s camp office in the city. The officials also raided the liquor shop and collected samples, which were been sent for chemical examination. Following the incident, the government suspended four Prohibition and Excise Department officials, holding them responsible for the tragedy. “Somebody shifted me to a hospital”, G. Subba Rao, a victim who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, said. Another TDP Minister Gadde Ramamohan said that the incident is very unfortunate and that bar belongs to an Ex-MLA.
