Vikings kicker to meet empathetic letter-writing 1st-graders
After missing an easy field goal which would have sent them to the next round of the National Football League playoffs, Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh is a bold man showing his face in public. For his career, Walsh is 121-of-142 on field goal tries. “I take accountability and ownership” for the missed kick, Walsh said amid more than a dozen news reporters and cameras.
The class wrote Walsh letters of support that ranged from heartfelt to amusing, all with the intention of boosting his spirits. You can see everything in the video above.
One letter from a Northpoint first grader reads: “Everyone makes mistakes sometimes”. I think it’s time everyone gives this guy a break.
Blair Walsh was likely having the worst moment of his life following that miss.
“I know it can be hard to get through things that make you sad”, Sophia Doffin wrote. Don’t worry. It’s just a game.
“This is really important”, Walsh said.
The Vikings kicker pays a visit the Minnesota elementary school whose youngsters showed remarkable kindness after a heartbreaking loss.
The letters of encouragement have also resonated with national media, garnering a lot of attention. I’m not anxious about the negative ones.
