Vikings put Peterson on IR; Kalil has labral surgery on hip
Jerick McKinnon will handle the primary workload with Matt Asiata serving as a short-yardage and goal line runner.
And the Vikings were ranked 28th in the league in offense with the best running back of his era on the field.
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson had surgery Thursday to fix a torn meniscus in his knee. Both players are out indefinitely.
Peterson made sure to point that out on Twitter after the game.
The Minnesota Vikings are undefeated in spite of one potentially devastating injury, but they might have a tougher time surviving the latest blows to their offense.
Three Vikings starters were sent into surgery this week. He missed three four games then, and coach Mike Zimmer has not hidden his disappointment with Floyd’s inability to stay healthy. The Vikings called Kalil’s procedure successful, but he’ll miss the first game of his career Sunday when the Vikings (2-0) visit Carolina.
The Broncos rode a dominant defense to the Super Bowl championship last season, with DeMarcus Ware, Von Miller, Aqib Talib and crew helping a weakened Peyton Manning win his second title. Asiata is a power back who could see goal-line and short-yardage carries. “I’m really, really disappointed for my brother and I knew he’s really upset”. Peterson hurt his knee against the Green Bay Packers, forcing him to have surgery on a torn meniscus. There are so many things that he can do that other National Football League quarterbacks can’t, and though the Vikings kept him in check the last time these two teams got together back in 2014, he’s evolved significantly as a player since then. But Waynes darted in front of a fourth-quarter pass by Rodgers for a game-sealing interception in the victory, a clear sign of progress for the Michigan State product. “He’s growing up. He’s talking a lot more”, Zimmer said.
The only good news on the injury front this week was the return of cornerback Xavier Rhodes (right knee) to practice. I guess not. Apparently there aren’t enough reporters at Winter Park, after all (full disclosure and CYA-I was in the locker room getting reaction to the Peterson and Kalil news and talking to Hillman when Bradford spoke to the media-just sayin’). Sam Bradford had an outstanding Minnesota debut last week, and it was due in large part to the presence of Stefon Diggs, the NFL’s current receiving yardage leader. “He’s a big guy and he likes contact; he loves contact”, Munnerlyn said. “My emotions are very high”.
