Vin Scully ‘resting comfortably’ after medical procedure
Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully underwent what the team is calling “a recommended medical procedure” on Thursday morning, and on the advice of his doctors will not call any Dodgers games this postseason.
Scully, 87, announced in August that he plans to return for the 2016 season, which will be his 67th with the team.
“Everyone in the Dodgers organization wishes Vin the speediest of recoveries”, the news release stated.
Anthony Witrado of ESPN.com noted Scully is the longest-tenured game-caller with one team and started his career in 1950 with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Scully missed the final series of the regular season against the San Diego Padres because of the illness.
Scully is reportedly resting comfortably after his procedure and is still scheduled to return next year for a final season at the microphone. “Enough is enough”, Scully said.
Just 24 hours away from Game 1 of their National League Division Series against the New York Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced that a key member of their team would miss the entire postseason.
Scully, considered by many the greatest sportscaster of the 20th century, said he does not want to have a farewell tour.
