Vinatieri’s field goals leads Colts past Jaguars 16-13 in OT
Said linebacker Telvin Smith, who had one of the two personal fouls: “We have to learn how to manage those”.
Colts spokesman Avis Roper tells The Associated Press the usher was in an area where he didn’t know who was allowed access. What did we learn from the game? Tampa Bay’s Kyle Brindza missed two field goals and the Eagles’ Caleb Sturgis, in his debut for the team, missed an extra point and a field goal. 22-yards later, the Colts were inside the 10-yard line and ready for the game-winner from Vinatieri. He didn’t throw an interception in completing 30 of 47 attempts for 282 yards.
Behind the sound game from Hasselbeck and continued second-half stops from the Colts defense, the other 40-something would get his chance to send the faithful home happy.
“It was fun to watch him”, Vinatieri mentioned. Another one of his field goals was a 54 yarder.
The Colts spurned the chance to take the lead after Hasselbeck lead another solid drive, but Frank Gore fumbled the ball in the endzone and the Jaguars gathered to end the threat.
Pagano was saying what almost 60,000 inside of Lucas Oil Stadium were thinking walking out of the Colts home on Sunday.
RAMS 24, CARDINALS 22 Todd Gurley rushed for all but 2 of 146 yards in the second half and the visiting Rams held on to hand the Cardinals their first loss of the season. They were flagged 13 times for 92 yards. Arian Foster did not look healthy with 8 carries for 10 yards and a fumble, and if he isn’t going this offense is lost. On the season, he has 7 catches for 51 receiving yards total in 4 starts. And then Coby Fleener really stepped up on Sunday, leading the Colts in catches, yards, and touchdowns.
Matt Hasselbeck and Adam Vinatieri celebrated their own throwback game on the field Sunday.
While the Colts have Hasselbeck listed as their number two quarterback, it is interesting that they brought in Johnson, because he has limited experience. Whether Luck will be able to resume to the starting lineup with the short turnaround remains to be seen, but at least the Colts’ situation is less desperate than it would’ve been had the Jaguars not squandered multiple opportunities to pull the road upset. Given Tom Brady’s extraordinary level of play and the Colts’ already considerable flaws, it was fair to wonder how much of a game this would be even before Luck’s injury. Lambo was wide right on a 39-yard attempt with:02 left, but Cleveland’s Tramon Williams was whistled for offside. Outside of Robert Mathis, the Colts didn’t get any consistent pass rush.
One could argue for Jamaal Charles, Le’Veon Bell or Matt Forte as the game’s best running back, but Peterson is certainly in the discussion. The Colts had to punt six times. Eli Manning went 20 of 35 for 212 yards and 3 touchdowns for the Giants (2-2).
This is a team that seemed to be heading in the right direction (if ever so slowly), but if you can’t beat a Colts team without Andrew Luck, you’re probably not very good.
