Vincent Kompany could play for Belgium, Man City told
Belgium are prepared to defy Manchester City by picking Vincent Kompany for their Euro 2016 qualifier against Israel on Tuesday.
And at his press conference on Monday to preview that game, Wilmots – quoted on the official Twitter feed of the Belgian national team – said: “Vincent is fit, but we’ll wait (on) the outcome of the training to decide if he will play”.
The 29-year-old has been out of action since limping out of City’s Champions League defeat against Juventus on September 15 with a calf injury and, having since missed five consecutive games for the club, had been warned by manager Pellegrini that he was not fit to play for his country during this global break.
“We can’t do anything about that because they have the decision – but he cannot play”. I don’t see any problem if he feels okay.
There are several other familiar names in the Belgium squad, with fellow Premier League players Simon Mignolet, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Kevin De Bruyne, Marouane Fellaini, Eden Hazard, Nacer Chadli, Romelu Lukaku and Divock Origi all involved in the set-up.
Vincent Kompany could feature for Belgium in Tuesday’s Euro 2016 qualifying clash with Israel in Brussels.
One or two Manchester City fans have asked Vincent Kompany to show his loyalty to the Blues by refusing to play for Belgium tomorrow night.
“I select the players and, from the beginning, this player (Kompany) said the second game will be alright”.
“I’ve not been in contact with Man City myself but the club are kept up to date with developments”.
Wilmots said: “I think he’s good right now. He has worked hard in training and knows his own body well”, added Wilmots.
