Virginia: 2 US television journalists fatally shot in on-air attack
The local television station confirmed Alison Parker and Adam Ward were killed in the attack that took place during a morning news report. In video of the incident, Ward’s camera hits the ground and people can be heard screaming as shots ring out.
According to the station website, Parker was a morning reporter.
There is no word on who fired the shots.
“We do not know the motive, we do not know who the killer is”. A WDBJ meteorologist identified the shooting victims as Allison Parker and Adam Ward. WDBJ tweeted out that they are trying to figure out what happened and that law enforcement is on scene. The shopping mall where the incident happened is just off Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta, about 25 miles southeast of Roanoke. Parker grew up in Martinsville, VA, and went to college at Patrick Henry Community College and James Madison University, graduating in 2012.
She previously worked with another CNN affiliate, WCTI, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, near Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.
