Virginia medical officials say both slain journalists shot in head
“That’s racist, ‘” WDBJ7 cameraman Trevor Fair told the New York Post.
“I kept thinking oh well Adam or Alison are going to text and say “oh this insane whatever, they were firing shots”, some explanation, and we’d be like “oh that’s funny” and we’ll laugh about it later. They hired her after that??” But then they decided that the community and its businesses needed support. “It can’t be that hard”, said the reporter’s father. He said he bought the gun two days after nine black people were killed in a June 17 shooting at a Charleston, South Carolina, church and wanted to use it to retaliate for what authorities called a racially motivated shooting. Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward were conducting an interview about local tourism when hit by a barrage of bullets. The gunman stood over her and tried to fire.
Flanagan was sacked at least twice from small-market stations after managers said he caused problems with other employees. The journalists died on the scene and the official, Vicki Gardner, was rushed to the hospital, where she is recovering. Senator Kaine has not yet reached out to the victims’ families out of respect for their space and privacy during this hard time of grieving. “I don’t even know how to do weather on a day like this”, he said.
“Neighbors would complain he would fly out of here early in the morning in his Mustang”.
Throughout the show, during Hirsbrunner’s periodic updates, his voice faltered.
The only survivor of the shooting that killed two journalists on live television in Virginia has revealed new details of the terrifying event, through her husband. “She was ducking and dodging and ended up on the ground, kind of hunched over, and he shot her in the back”. Vicki Gardner was shot in the back.
“The surgeon told me that a couple of centimeters and she wouldn’t be walking and a couple of centimeters more and she wouldn’t be alive”, Tim Gardner told ABC News.
Broadcasters from Boston to San Diego are posting photos of themselves or their staffs with the hashtag (hash)WeStandWithWDBJ on Facebook and Twitter. The gunman, 41-year-old Vester Flanagan, died hours later of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
During a weather report, Leo Hirsbrunner became emotional while recalling how Ward would come over to the weather desk every morning, grab a piece of candy and hide the wrapper somewhere on the desk.
Flanagan initially planned on getting away with the murders of Parker, 24, and Ward, 27. This time, news unrelated to the tragedy dotted the program. Parker and Ward were doing a live interview at Bridgewater Plaza in Franklin County when Flanigan allegedly walked up behind them and started firing. “It’s just terrible”, Richard Martinez said after appearing on CNN with Alison Parker’s dad Thursday night. He then fled, shooting himself to death as police closed in on his vehicle about 200 miles from Roanoke.
However Mrs Gardner, the executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake chamber of commerce, managed to survive.
Now, however, Parker has made a surprising statement amid the gun regulation talk, telling reporters that he’s “probably going to have to get a gun”, and cites self-defense from those who oppose his gun-control platform as the reason.
“That’s how that guy’s mind worked”.
