Virginia plane crash were from Indiana, Kentucky, Germany
Officials say the six people who died in a small plane crash in Virginia were from Indiana, Kentucky and Germany and that three of the six were teenagers.
The Virginia State Police, Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
Fifty-two-year-old Lisa Borinstein, 19-year-old Luke Borinstein and 15-year-old Emma Borinstein, were killed in Friday’s crash along with a foreign exchange student, said Joseph Borinstein, the children’s grandfather, speaking in a telephone interview Saturday.
Virginia State Police say the aircraft left Kentucky Friday morning, stopped in IN, and then continued to Shannon Airport in Fredericksburg, its final destination.
Investigators with the NTSB and FAA have determined the plane touched down midway down the runway before the pilot attempted to abort the landing and execute a “go around”, according to Virginia State Police spokesperson Corinne Geller.
Anchorage Assistant Fire Chief Erich Scheunemann tells KTVA (http://bit.ly/2b6hBCY) that two people were reported to be on the plane when it crashed Saturday afternoon.
Emma Borinstein and Timmerman were students at the district’s Triton Central High School, the statement said.
Luke, 19, had just completed his first year at Wabash College in IN and was interested in medicine, Joseph said.
Tanya Aquino, of Washington, was on an Amtrak train to Richmond when the train stopped near the scene of the crash.
The plane made it beyond the railroad tracks at the end of the airport property, banked left, and struck a tree line.
“When I heard there was a fire, it was such a hot day, I was hoping it was just a brush fire”, Aquino said. “It looked so awful the way the plane had landed”. She said her train was delayed about 30 minutes because of the crash.
The airport has an average of 85 flights per day, mostly local general aviation. Ninety-one aircraft are based there, and most are single engine.
