Virginia Tech, Radford University rise in US News & World Report rankings
The University of Chicago has held onto its No. 3 spot in U.S. News and World Report rankings of national universities, as Northwestern University moved up the list and the University of IL at Champaign-Urbana fell.
The university’s rise in the rankings came as KU has increased graduation rates in recent years.
It’s the UO’s third year at 103 among national universities, after rising three years ago to 106 from 109.
Many higher education experts warn the U.S. News rankings should be taken with a grain of salt.
Parents and prospective students aren’t the only ones watching the rankings. Improving student retention and graduation through the Office of Undergraduate Studies has been a focus for university leaders lately.
“I am gratified that these national rankings recognize the value of an Aggie education”. The higher the quality of the program and the lower the cost, the better the deal.
Along with the “Best Midwestern” ranking, Western is also recognized as a “Best College for Veterans” (Midwest). That’s up two places from last year’s 135th ranking.
Currently, the university’s overall retention rate for baccalaureate students is 88 percent, up from 84.7 percent five years ago and up from 80 percent 10 years ago.
With FSU’s 80 percent six-year graduation rate, the university exceeded a prediction by U.S. News that FSU’s graduation rate would be 71 percent. Good luck. The university admitted about 6 percent of more than 31,000 applicants for the class of 2021, according to university admissions data. The top schools on that list are names that almost everyone knows: Princeton first and Harvard second. The incoming freshmen class had stronger SAT and ACT scores than the previous class. Western is also listed 61st of 122 public and private colleges and universities on the top Midwestern list of “Best Regional Universities”.
Howard University is a comprehensive research university as well as a premier HBCU.

The University has produced four Rhodes Scholars, 10 Truman Scholars, two Marshall Scholars, over 80 Fulbright recipients, 22 Pickering Fellows and one Schwarzman Scholar. IIT-Bombay is the second best Indian university on the list.
