Viroqua Man Dies In Western Wisconsin Flooding
A 79-year-old man died in the town of Viroqua on Thursday, apparently after attempting to drive through a water-covered road, according to the Vernon County Sheriff John B. Spears.
Heavy floods in the USA midwestern states of Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota have blocked roads, caused damage to property and infrastructure and led to people being evacuated and rescued from their homes. The water eventually filled the passenger compartment of the truck.
The flooding and mudslides heavily damaged the small community where McDonald lived near the base of a bluff along the Mississippi River.
The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for western Wisconsin counties.
Flooding is widespread, and there are dozens of roads closed.
Authorities in several Iowa cities were mobilizing resources Friday to handle flooding from a rain-swollen river.
Another several inches of rain could fall through Thursday and a flash flood watch remains for most of the area through Thursday night.
