Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Debuts at Pebble Beach
Mercedes has unveiled the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept at the Pebble Beach classic vehicle show in California.
Most notably, the dashboard, door trim and seats are all connected in a flowing design to create what’s dubbed a “360° lounge”. In the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 this can be seen above all in the “hyperanalogue” instruments with needles and circular, crystal-look displays.
If true, the huge coupe could come equipped with supercar levels of acceleration. That’s what Mercedes-Benz is calling its latest concept coupe, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6.
Other reports suggest the Pebble Beach auto could be used to promote the luxury German car-maker’s new special projects division that will concentrate on making bespoke cars for its wealthy owners.
Since the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 has technically not been revealed by the German brand just yet, no technical specifications are yet available.
Hopefully some of the known unknowns are filled in by Mercedes-Benz when they officially unveil the Maybach coupe concept tomorrow afternoon, U.S. time.
The engine can achieve 750 horsepower; the vehicle will hit 60mph in under four seconds. There remain familiar Merc design cues as well, namely the front grille – “inspired by a pinstripe suit”, no less – the rear lights with a hint of S-Class coupe too them and 24-inch (!) wheels drawing on the design of last year’s IAA concept. The shallow underfloor battery allows a range of over 500km. Benz says the all-wheel-drive coupe theoretically hits 62 miles per hour in less than 4 seconds, has a top speed electronically governed at 155 miles per hour and should be good for more than a 200-mile range.
The concept even includes DC fast-charging capability, giving it 62 miles per five minutes of charging, at station supporting the J1772 Combo standard.
There is nothing conventional about the Maybach 6’s interior design. Information like the seat position and sat-nav instructions are shown on a “digital strip” display which runs across the entire width of the cabin, just below the windscreen. The 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 starts at $189,350. It can also be charged via an electromagnetic field, if you prefer to go wireless.
The executive said that the Escala, in this form, would never be a production vehicle, but promised that elements from its design would begin showing up in all Cadillac vehicles starting in cars sold by 2019.
