Visit To Malaysia, Singapore To Strengthen Defense, Economic Ties: Modi
Malaysians will have the opportunity to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a public reception this Sunday. Considering that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s 2009 trip to the United Kingdom was for a G20 summit, Modi’s visit to the United Kingdom is the first bilateral visit in almost a decade.
“The emphasis would be on working with India in the areas we are good at, including skill development and town planning”, he told PTI in comments on India-Singapore ties ahead of Modi’s visit from November 23. Since 2010, India has a strategic partnership with the country whose investments, including in various infrastructure projects are strong in India.
“Build responsive, inclusive and collective solutions… this will be the theme when India assumes presidency of BRICS”, Modi said.
“During the visit, we would conclude a strategic partnership with Singapore, along with further strengthening of our defence relationships”, Wadhwa said. “Students from Singapore often visit Indian schools to get better understanding of the Indian communities and study approaches and vice versa”, he said.
Modi also touched upon the impact of India’s growth on environment.
Both summits might give a platform for Modi to additionally communicate for that second time with leaders of ASEAN countries after his connections using them at Nay Pyi Taw offering an additional increase to Indiais Work East policy.
“We stand united in strongly condemning the awful acts of terror”, Modi said two days after Islamic State terrorists massacred almost 130 people in the French capital.
India has benefitted significantly from Singapore’s role as a leading global financial center, providing worldwide trade finance, investment banking and a listing platform for Indian companies as well as Indian real estate investment trusts. Modi was quoted as having said in the article in the latest edition of the magazine whose cover has caricatures of world leaders including Modi with a title, “The World in 2016”.
“Over two million persons of Indian origin reside in Malaysia”. “It is equally important to promote broader peace and stability in West Asia and Africa”, he said while adding this was also required for addressing the current refugee crisis. Senator Rob Portman from OH, who was instrumental in bringing Indian mangoes to the USA during the Bush administration, said there is a unique opportunity to strengthen ties between India and the US.
He will visit Institute of Technical Education and pay homage at the INA Memorial Marker at Esplanade Park.
Top Indian banks, such as the ICICI Bank and State Bank of India, have been eyeing a substantial presence in Singapore for over a decade.
