Vivienne Westwood drives tank to David Cameron’s constituency home in protest
The 74-year-old legendary fashion designer knows how to get a point across, and she took her anti-fracking protest literally to the Prime Minister’s front doorstep.
The group included grandmothers and their grandchildren from Lancashire, which is affected by the latest round of fracking licences.
Fracking is a controversial process for extracting natural gas from shale deep below the ground.
“But he is doing precisely that here in Britain by forcing toxic, life-threatening fracking chemicals on his own people against the advice of his own chief scientist”.
Mr Cameron was not home at the time.
It said any chemicals used were subject to assessment by the Environment Agency which will not permit their use if there is a risk to the environment or people’s health. “Britons no longer have any choice but to fight back”, Dame Vivienne said.
Westwood is protesting against plans to boost fracking across the north of England, and in December a year ago (14) she and Corre attempted to deliver asbestos to Downing Street to highlight their campaign.
The date was chosen as it was Mr Cameron’s first Friday in his constituency after parliament re-opened after the summer recess, and before conference season recess, which begins on Thursday, September 17.
