VIVO replaces Pepsi as IPL title sponsor
According to Times Of India, the news was revealed during the BCCI Working Committee today that VIVO will sponsor the tournament for at least two years.
The BCCI banned the three cricketers for life and the Supreme Court appointed the Justice Mudgal committee to investigate the scandal.
The board’s decision to invite bids for the next two years only, while Super Kings and Royals remain suspended, indicated that it was not looking to increase the number of franchises from eight. It will be the final working committee meeting where the annual accounts will be passed and the date of the Annual General Meeting will also be decided.
“BCCI will float tenders and invite bids for two new teams to replace CSK & RR in the Indian Premier League for 2016 and 2017 (2 years)”. It was also suggested that after CSK and RR complete their two-year suspension period as per Supreme Court- appointed Lodha Committee’s verdict, they will be re-inducted into the cash-rich league to make it a 10-team affair.
Both CSK and RR will return to the league in 2018 after serving the 2-year ban.
Although the company did not come on record to specify the reasons but it was reported that PepsiCo felt the spot- fixing scandal had brought the IPL in disrepute.
·The Treasurer’s Office will start operations from the BCCI Headquarters, Mumbai at the earliest.
The board took a few steps towards more transparency on Sunday by appointing Pricewaterhouse Coopers to look into how its member associations utilise the funds distributed to them by their parent body.
“As proposed by the president, the revival of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as the centre of excellence is the top most priority of the BCCI”.
