Vizio Launches $130000 HDR 4KTV Set
The series will include a 65-inch class model (RS65-B2) at an MSRP of $5,999.99 and a 120-inch class model (RS120-B3) at $129,999.99. Before we mention prices, let’s look at what makes these TVs “premium”. And before you can say, “but what about content?”, that’s available now too, with more on the way. Buyers of either Reference series TV will get access to certain Warner Bros.
Netflix has also committed to remastering content in Dolby Vision and is expected to deliver season one of its adventure drama Marco Polo as its first Dolby Vision release via the Netflix app soon.
Now these two models do indeed seem insanely expensive, especially by the current much more affordable standards of 4K TV pricing (with the exception of OLED and Samsung’s or Sony’s absolute highest end 4K UHD TVs) but the 65 inch model does also offer a few absolutely stunning specs and visual quality.
When we first saw a prototype of the 120-inch model, it had a giant, removable sound bar speaker, but that idea has apparently been scrapped in favor of no sound system, since customers of this TV are likely to already own one or to want a more powerful system than Vizio could offer in the TV. We need better pixels.
Dolby Vision playback technology on the Reference Series enables a dramatically enhanced viewing experience, with increased brightness capacity and color accuracy. This massive 4K TV that is the Reference Series can be ordered on Vizio’s official website. They also feature 10-bit panels, full-array LED direct backlighting, and 384 active LED zones.
Designed for cinephiles and high-end home theater enthusiasts, the premium Reference Series collection pushes the boundaries of brightness, color and contrast. It has been upgraded to a quantum-dot display since the two products were unveiled in April, further expanding its color gamut. The manufacturer tells us that quantum dot filters are simply not available in screen sizes large enough for the 120-inch panel, but even without quantum dots, the RS120 is capable of reproducing 96% of the DCI/P3 color gamut and about 73% of REC.2020. And Netflix has vowed to support Dolby Vision in its original series “Marco Polo“. But Vizio thinks Dolby Vision is the better option.
Right now the list of films you can watch (through Vudu) is small, with titles including The Lego Movie and Mad Max. The differences were not subtle.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment said it will provide about a dozen 4K Ultra HD Dolby Vision mastered titles via Walmart’s Vudu video on-demand streaming service. The controls for this surround sound system are all integrated into the set’s menu and controlled by the TV’s factory remote. Vizio isn’t going for any stunts or visual tricks here; the goal is to show you movies just the way that directors intended them to look.
VIZIO’s 65-inch Reference Series Ultra HD TV comes with an integrated 5.1-channel soundbar with wireless subwoofer and rear speakers. Interested consumers can submit their orders now at VIZIO.com and will then be contacted by a local custom installer to arrange delivery and a white-glove setup service.
