Vodafone Says It is Rolling Out Wi-Fi Calling across Britain
The service will be rolling out over the next few weeks, and apparently it will be available only to pay monthly customers on its Vodafone Red tariff.
Vodafone has launched nationwide WiFi Calling, enabling customers to make calls without the need of a mobile signal.
The good thing is that you don’t need an additional app for the service. “However, if mobile operators do not address the quality, simplicity and security of their customers’ Wi-Fi connectivity – to bring the experience in line with that available on the cellular network – services such as Wi-Fi Calling will be fundamentally limited”, said Dave Fraser, CEO of Devicescape, in a statement.
Not only does WiFi calling keep you connected when your signal is poor, it allows users to make calls in places where they couldn’t before, like the London Underground.
“It is easy to use and doesn’t cost a penny more”.
Vodafone United Kingdom consumer director Cindy Rose said WiFi Calling is “one of a series of future voice services we are launching for our customers over the next few months”.
EE rolled out a similar service in the United Kingdom earlier this year and Vodafone seems to be playing catch up here with a service that works without the use of a separate app – it’ll just work when you’re on Wi-Fi.
Vodafone United Kingdom has also announced £2 billion investment program for 2014 and 2015, which aims to improve indoor and outdoor network coverage, and expand mobile internet access to even more businesses and communities.
The mobile operator will roll out the service nationwide over the next few weeks. The program has enabled Vodafone to expand its 4G coverage to 626 cities, districts and towns and thousands of smaller communities across the country.
