Volkswagen Ameo Introduced Today; Launch Mid
Volkswagen will launch the Ameo in the second half of 2016 and it will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, the Honda Amaze, the Tata Zest, the Hyundai Xcent, the Ford Figo Aspire and the Tata’s upcoming compact sedan based on the Zica.
A day before the 2016 Auto Expo, Volkswagen has officially revealed the Ameo – its contender in the compact sedan segment.
In terms of looks, the Ameo shares the same design language as its siblings Polo and the Vento. Up front it has the long sloping bonnet that leads into the typically VW grille. In profile, the auto looks like a scaled down version of the Vento thanks to its stubby boot. It is the first sub-4 metre sedan to be launched by Volkswagen in the country and marks the German carmaker’s entry into this highly competitive territory. The diesel Ameo gets a 1.5-litre unit to make most of the excise duty benefits. While the former is good for 74bhp of power and 110Nm of torque, the oil burner produces 88.7bhp of power along with a peak torque of 230Nm. As for the petrol variant, it packs a 1.2-liter three-cylinder MPI petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. While the 1.5 TDi diesel engine will be available with five-speed manual transmission and seven-speed DSG transmission options.
Michael Mayer, director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India, said, “Starting this year on a positive note, we are very happy to announce an increase in monthly sales for Volkswagen Passenger Cars for January 2016”.
