Volkswagen Golf R & Tiguan Not Going To Take Side
Volkswagen is now on board as they get ready to release the first vehicles using their MIB II system, which incorporates Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink. Android Auto requires devices with Android Lollipop 5.0 and above for compatibility and supports third-party apps like Spotify, iHeart Radio, Stitcher, WhatsApp and Skype.
All this underscores how Volkswagen is stressing automotive infotainment technology, especially integration with Apple, Google, and other third-party companies.
While the entry-level models will come with the 5.0-inch resistive (400 x 240) touchscreen (colour) display, AUX-in, SD card slots, USB multimedia, reverse camera display and Bluetooth technology, the mid-range models will comprise 6.5-inch or 6.3-inch (800×480) capacitive touchscreen display with proximity sensor. The first vehicle with Android Auto will be the Golf R, and it has already started making it to their showrooms.
Android Auto will also be available as part of the Car-Net suite of connectivity offerings.
The MIB II is no usual entertainment and navigation system. According to Volkswagen, most of its 2016 models will include the new MIB-II system, aside from entry-level models.
Stay tuned for more information about the 2016 Volkswagen models that will be receiving MIB II and the new active safety features, as these updated cars will reach dealerships starting this month. In fact, Volkswagen divides its functionality into three major areas: “Security & Service”, “Guide & Inform” and “App-Connect”. There are, however, other automakers also doubling down on infotainment features, including those involving CarPlay and Android Auto.
Audiobooks.com also features an iOS app and added support for Apple’s CarPlay infotainment system earlier this year.
