Volkswagen India Recalls 389 Polo Cars for Preventive fix
The vehicle which have been recalled were manufactured in September this year. The reason cited for the recall is an issue with the handbrake mechanism installed in Polos from the September 2015 batch. The company has determined that under certain conditions, a batch of handbrake cable retention levers in the rear brake liner might break, it said in a statement late Thursday.
For customers who have already got their cars delivered, Volkswagen will contact them individually to get the part replaced.
“Volkswagen India has confirmed a temporary hold on deliveries of its carline Polo due to a technical reason which is now under evaluation”.
However, the company assured that deliveries of the non-impacted Polo range will continues as per schedule. It will be carried out at the company’s workshops at no cost to the customer and will require approximately one hour.
Meanwhile, Europe’s largest carmaker, on around 11 million diesel vehicles, has confessed of being dishonest in emissions examination.
Wednesday, the company’s supervisory board named Hans Dieter Potsch as chairman of the board with immediate effect.
Volkswagen has already identified the cars and has published the fix instructions to the service organisation in India.
The biggest business crisis in Volkswagen’s 78-year history has wiped more than a third off its share price, forced out its long-time chief executive and sent shockwaves through both the global auto industry and the German establishment. In the first six months of this calendar year, Volkswagen has sold nearly 17,000 units. The company has produced 20,030 units of Polo in India for the period between April-August 2015. Secondly, it wants the testing agency to check if VW uses the same “defeat device”, the software which was manipulated by VW in the United States to fudge emissions data in India.
