Volkswagen recalls 420000 cars for air bag repairs
Volkswagen is recalling 420,000 vehicles in the U.S. because of a problem that can prevent front air bags from deploying in a crash. If you have questions, you’re encouraged to call Volkswagen customer service at 800-822-8987, or ring NHTSA at 888-327-4236 and ask about safety campaign #15V483000.
On certain vehicles, the steering wheel clock spring could become contaminated with long hair or long fibers which may cause a displacement of the internal guide loops. But with all the other airbag-related recalls going on these days, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration got involved earlier this year, challenging the assessment which resulted in Volkswagen announcing a recall for the issue. They include 2010 to 2014 Volkswagen CC, Passat, and Tiguan; 2010 to 2013 Eos and Jetta; 2011 to 2014 Golf and GTI; and 2011 to 2013 Jetta Sportwagen, according to the filing. VW says owners will see a warning light for the air bag if the vehicle is susceptible to the problem.
Volkswagen said no deaths or injuries had been reported in connection with the fault.
