Volkswagen Scandal 2015: Company Offers Gift Cards to auto Owners
Wellington lawyer Edward Cox, who is organising a group legal action against Volkswagen, said the USA offer “appeared consistent with what they describe as a goodwill offer” but is disappointed not to have received an indication that New Zealand owners stand to be compensated.
The 24-hour roadside assistance offer is associated with your vehicle identification number.
Volkswagen hasn’t announced how it will be fixing vehicles involved in its diesel scandal, but it has assembled a new “goodwill package” for its customers.
After apologizing for two months, Volkswagen is finally putting its money where its mouth is, forking over $500 to VW auto owners hit by its emissions cheating scandal.
The latest notice covered the diesel versions of the 2014 VW Touareg, the 2015 Porsche Cayenne, and the 2016 Audi A6 Quattro, A7 Quattro, A8, A8L and Q5, and alleges nitrogen oxide emissions up to nine times EPA’s standard.
Volkswagen launched an internal investigation on September 22, five days after the EPA notified the company that it was under investigation on suspicion of violating USA environmental laws.
Why aren’t other diesels included in this offer?
Volkswagen’s step is similar to one taken by German industrial firm Siemens AG as it cleaned up a bribery scandal.
KBA said the probe was triggered by the scandal of Volkswagen which rigged its diesel engines with software to cheat in emission tests. Instead, it says it’s focused on identifying a fix to the car’s emissions system, which is sending far more pollutants into the atmosphere than it’s supposed to.
The person added that Volkswagen already has an ombudsman system that allows employees to provide information anonymously about any wrongdoing.
Whether they are among the models found to have “defeat device” software or not, Volkswagens have been lingering on dealer lots longer, and selling at lower average prices over the past month or so. Customers who are accepting this Goodwill Package are not required to waive their rights or release their claims against VW nor will they forfeit their right to any potential future compensation.
Volkswagen is also considering to buy back a few of the cars from the United States customers. Volkswagen said its Audi extravagance brand would dispatch a comparable project on Friday.
