Volkswagen to showcase compact sedan Ameo at Delhi Auto Expo

The manufacturer will reveal the Ameo at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.

Volkswagen on Wednesday announced the name of its latest Indian compact sedan as “Volkswagen Ameo”.

The rear section of the Volkswagen Ameo, in a photo released by the company. Besides, VW will showcase its premier sports utility vehicle Tiguan and sedan Passat GTE at the 13th edition of the Delhi Auto Expo.

The Ameo is expected to use the same engines as the Polo.

With the latest investment in the new compact sedan, Volkswagen has now put in approximately Rs 5,500 crore in India at the Pune plant since it commenced operations in 2007. While Volkswagen is only expected to launch the Ameo with these two engine options initially, just like the Polo and the Vento, this one too will be launched in a GT Trim with more powerful engines.

This new compact sedan will face rivals like the Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest, Hyundai Xcent, and Ford Aspire. The Polo’s 5-speed manual gearbox is likely to be carried over as well.

VW India has dropped an interesting video that asks the public to guess the name of VW’s first sub-4m sedan (codenamed VW ICS).

Volkswagen claims that the Ameo has been designed specifically for the Indian auto market.
