Volquez expected to start game 5 for the Royals
Volquez (personal) will start Game 5 of the World Series, if necessary, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.
The pitcher said he did not know about his father’s death before he took the mound in Game 1, and said it likely allowed him to make the start, which would eventually end in a 14 inning win for Kansas City.
Collins opted for Conforto in left field, meaning Yoenis Cespedes started in center field, despite the fact Conforto had only one hit in his first 20 postseason at-bats. He died in his native Dominican Republic. A year ago, the Royals went 1-2 in three World Series games in San Francisco, playing without the services of designated hitter Billy Butler. “And I imagine that Edi’s dad would want the same thing”. And it was like Chris Young when his dad passed away. Not when a child loses a parent, not when a son loses a hero.
The 11-year veteran, Edinson Volquez pitched a flawless first and gave up three runs through three innings, as reported by DeadSpin. The fans are going to show up and they can play good baseball here. “I think that was the right choice because like I say, I don’t think I am going to be able to pitch that day if I find out before the game”. They had sent text messages while he was away, just to let Volquez know they were thinking about him.
Volquez’s father, Daniel, died of heart failure at the age of 63.
“I actually like the fact that (in) the National League, the pitchers hit”, Yost said Saturday afternoon, in the hours before Game 4. I want to pitch. “I’ve got no problem with that”, he said. Volquez said he got the news after Kansas City’s 5-4, 14-inning win, then flew home to the Dominican Republic. “He knew that his mom wanted him to stay and play baseball”. “We’re all going to try to do it for everyone on this team, everyone that’s lost a family member on this team”.
AROUND THE LEAGUE: Brewers RF Ryan Braun is recovering after undergoing a surgical procedure on his back and is expected to be at full strength when spring training begins in February. “We are proud of you, and be proud, and make people more proud than they are'”. “Ned asked me, ‘Are you able to pitch?’ I said, ‘Yeah, that’s why I’m here”. We are proud of you. “But we’re still planning on him pitching tomorrow”.
Cespedes, who had a painkiller injection in a shoulder last week, was 1 for 10 with no RBIs in the opening two games.
On September 26, Chris Young lost his father, Charles, to cancer, while Royals’ third baseman, Mike Moustakas lost his mother, Connie to cancer on August 9. “That’s the game. The game is going to humble you sometimes”.
