Volvo drivers can now have online shopping orders delivered to their cars
In preparation for the festive season and already eyeing Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the auto manufacturer will allow customers to have Christmas toys, gifts, food and drinks delivered to their cars.
The Swedish carmaker claims it has launched the world’s first commercially available in-car delivery service that does exactly what it says.
Volvo has teamed up with PostNord, which is a leader in communication and logistics supplier that runs Lekmer.com and Mat.se, who supplies toy and baby goods and online groceries respectively. The courier in charge of your package will head to your car’s location using Global Positioning System, and once there, he or she will use a one-time encoded key to access the trunk. The reason why this truly is a service, is because it can spare you from struggling to find a parking space in a busy city center during the holidays, or having to put up with all the crowds of people trying to buy the same products as you.
Customers have to share the place where they will park the auto on delivery day and a notification will be sent to the vehicle owner once the delivery has been completed.
“This service simply makes shopping easier”, said Bjorn Annwall, Senior Vice President for Marketing, Sales and Service at Volvo.
Volvo began trialling its “roam delivery” service a year ago and wasn’t alone – we saw Audi piloting a similar service too. The company also intends to joins forces with more online retailers to give users a wider selection of goods that are eligible for in-car delivery.
Volvo is always keen to explore new technologies, be it in the areas of safety, autonomous driving or connectivity, but believes fundamentally in Nordic utility – meaning it will only introduce a technology if it actually saves lives, saves times, adds an element of convenience or benefits drivers.
