Vote for Trump a step toward needed changes
The other 48 states operate on a winner-take-all basis in awarding electoral votes. Only five times in the nation’s history has the candidate receiving the most popular votes failed to become president because of a failure to get the required 270 electoral votes – the most recent being Al Gore in 2000, and of course, Hilary Clinton this year.
“Mommy! I thought Hillary Clinton was going to be the president”, the young girl said. “If it was ever plausible, it’s this year”. Trump won enough states to get 306 electors-a margin of 36 votes-while Clinton got 232. Trump’s opponents are motivated by the outcome of the popular vote and by their contention that the businessman and reality TV star is unfit to serve as commander in chief. If no candidate hits that magic number, the House of Representatives chooses the next president from among the top three Electoral College vote-getters. Meanwhile, Clinton is winning by more than 481,000 votes in Washington. “Why? Mr. Trump is unfit to serve”.
“I mean, I’d prefer not getting inundated with angry Facebook messages and emails from anti-Trump individuals and the occasional death threat isn’t fun”, said Banerian.
On Nov. 9 the Missoulian reprinted a piece from the Miami Herald by Joseph E. Uscinski, an associate professor of political science, titled, “There’s a strong case to be made for Electoral College”. If a state has a tie between elector votes, the tie breaking process is different for each state.
As we await the return of manufacturing jobs to Youngstown and the construction jobs, paid for by Mexico, to build the security wall along our southern border, it’s back to work for our newly elected officials, our community activists, our board and committee members, and all of you as we work together to build a better community here in Wilton Manors. Texas (1 EC Vote for every 722,871 residents) gets hit the worst, followed by California (1 for 711,723), Florida, New York (1 for 682,613), and North Carolina (1 for 669,520).
He’d remember that at the start of the Constitutional Convention in May 1787, delegates considered proposals to have the president elected by the people, by the Congress, by the Senate, by the state legislatures, by electors and by the governors. “We should have a direct democracy”.
He said he reads the newspaper just like everyone else and has been following the election the same as his fellow residents in Northern Oakland County. Republicans control a majority of state delegations, so this route still benefits Trump.
Dallas-Ft. Worth area elector Alex Kim told NBC 5 some electors have actually received death threats. But he said he is undeterred. “If a candidate wins the majority of the votes, the people have spoken”.
In California, Clinton is ahead by over 3 million votes, while Trump is in the lead by more than 177,000 in Utah. Trump’s team, who, during the later stages of the race, repeatedly claimed that the system is rigged, were so upset about this situation that they filed a complaint on the day of the election.
Trump would be the first Republican to win MI in a presidential election since George H.W. Bush won the state in 1988. Police kept watch over her home until the electors convened in Tallahassee to cast their votes.
Moreover, besides protecting the rights of Americans who reside in those states, it should also remind us that smaller states have industries and functions that outweigh a measurement in population alone – the agriculture sector of a state, for instance.
