VP Pence touts House GOP health care plan
The plan was swiftly criticised by Democrats.
New Jersey would continue receiving federal funds to provide health insurance to nearly 200,000 people receiving coverage through Medicaid under Republican proposals to replace and repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Rep. Greg Walden of OR is the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, one of two committees from which the bill originated.
Kreidler said he was concerned that the measure was being rushed to vote with little time for public review or a financial analysis by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.
Is Obamacare more popular than ever? .
AshLee Strong, a spokeswoman for Ryan, said: “We are now at the culmination of a years-long process to keep our promise to the American people”.
The other major roadblock for conservatives remains the use of advanceable, refundable tax credits, which many call nothing more than a new entitlement program.
The bill includes tax credits that would be available in full to individuals making under $75,000 a year and families making under $150,000. Earlier versions would have provided the credit regardless of income, an element that many conservative House lawmakers opposed.
Under the Republican plan, the income-based tax credits would be replaced with credits that would rise with age.
Those taxes paid for Obamacare.
“Access doesn’t mean a damn thing”, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said at a health care debate last month hosted by CNN. Obamacare also imposes penalties for people who do not enroll in insurance.
That move would lead to many healthy people deciding not to buy insurance.
Freezing enrollment in ObamaCare’s Medicaid expansion is critical to protecting taxpayers and freeing up resources for the truly needy.
The Medicaid expansion set forth by Obamacare would continue under the plan until 2020. Now the state receives a federal match for the money it spends on Medicaid.
State Medicaid plans would no longer have to cover the same essential health benefits that health insurers on Obamacare’s exchanges must provide. The change helped more than 16 million uninsured individuals get health care in the 32 states that adopted this expanded coverage.
Dependent coverage until 26 – Under the ACA, a child can be added to their parents’ healthcare plan until they turn 26. Probably not. Although official estimates haven’t been released, “aides from both parties and nonpartisan analysts have said they expect those numbers to be lower” than the 20 million covered under Obamacare, the AP reported.
