Vulcan bomber flying over region tomorrow afternoon
Hundreds of thousands are expected this weekend to try to catch a farewell glimpse of the world’s last flying Vulcan bomber as the majestic Cold War jet makes fly-pasts around the country in a farewell tour.
Cold War icon XH558 will fly over Middle Wallop and Old Sarum in Wiltshire then Bristol Airport and Filton before heading for Cardiff Airport, then on to Gloucestershire and over Gloucester Airport at Staverton.
This weekend isn’t XH558’s final landing as they intend at least two more flights in late October before it retires from flying.
The RAF Avro Vulcan V-bomber (XL319) lands at Sunderland Airport to become the centrepiece of the North East Aircraft Museum.
It is also planned to fly past Durham Tees Airport, Eshott Airfield, Alnwick, East Fortune Airfield in Berwick, and Carlisle Airport.
Passes at certain airports will be dependent on ATC clearances at the time of arrival.
“Please be aware that due to various permissions and agreements, the routes vary from those originally published over ten days ago”. This has started to overwhelm local authorities and emergency services.
Police Supt Rollitt said: “Although I understand the passion of the supporters of the Vulcan, over the past few months as we approach its final flights, more and more spectators have turned up at events where the Vulcan has been”. There is great risk of severe restrictions being imposed on the flight operations if matters persist and the team said it needs to minimise the risk of enforced flight cancellations on the grounds of public safety.
On Sunday, (October 11) the Vulcan will complete the “Southern” section of its tour- a route which will see it soar over Manston.
Full updates, locations and timings will be made available on Facebook and Twitter.
