VW scandal could lead to UK’s biggest ever class action lawsuit
Volkswagen Korea was ordered to recall some of its cars in early 2014 by the Ministry of Environment after it found that a sensor that monitors the exhaust gas temperature wasn’t working properly, but the company has completely ignored the order for nearly two years, according to a report by the ministry. So began a series of events that resulted in Volkswagen admitting it built “defeat device” software into its diesel cars from 2009 to 2015 that automatically cheated on United States air-pollution tests. His sole bite has been from a man who offered $7,500 on speculation that he could resell it in Mexico.
While VW is already facing class-action lawsuits in the USA and its legal situation is getting more complicated, and potentially expensive, by the day, the situation in Europe remains equally murky and potentially costly.
It hired the university to do a standard emissions tests on diesel cars in the U.S. Volkswagen has been hyping diesel cars that are environmentally friendly and fuel efficient.
The automaker’s executives have admitted its diesel cars had software that cheated on US and California emission tests.
A five-member executive committee had grilled Winterkorn, 68, at the company’s headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany as the company was under huge pressure to take decisive action, with its shares down more than 30 percent in value since the crisis broke, and the bad news still coming.

At Volkswagen, damage control is in full swing after it was revealed the automaker had, for seven years, equipped its vehicles with software capable of fooling emission tests. “And if it wasn’t for the Environmental Protection Agency, Volkswagen would continue lying to its own customers”.

Carder belonged to a 15-member West Virginia University team that pioneered portable emissions testing as part of a 1998 settlement between the U.S. Justice Department and several heavy duty diesel engine makers including Caterpillar Inc and Cummins Engine Co.
Bill Haggerty, a sales manager at a VW dealership in the Chicago suburb of Oak Lawn, Illinois, said he hasn’t heard concerns from customers so far.
“Due to the existence of the defeat devices in these vehicles, the affected Volkswagen vehicles do not conform in all material respects to the vehicle specifications described in the applications for the certificates of conformity that purportedly cover them”, said the EPA.
Italian consumer group Altroconsumo said it, along with similar organisations in other European countries, was planning to write to Volkswagen demanding clear information on the situation immediately.
