Wade scores 22 in Chicago debut, Bulls beat Celtics 105-99
That three was one of four Wade buried on Thursday, and that stands out when you consider Wade only hit seven during the regular season all of a year ago.
The Bulls outrebounded the Celtics 55-39, giving them 16 more shots, and the big three of Dwyane Wade (22 points), Jimmy Butler (24 points) and Rajon Rondo (four points, nine assists) led the way to victory at the United Center. “I had an out-of-body experience after that but it was a good moment”. He even apologized on Twitter.
In the fourth, the Bulls carved out a 95-81 lead with a 9-0 run that was capped by Butler’s layup off a strong drive.
Wade takes a great deal of pride in playing for his hometown team and leading them to prominence, and as long as he stays healthy, he is the flawless player to spearhead the resurgence of Bulls basketball.
It’s one game, and we overreact only because there’s nothing else to do.
The Bulls were staring down the barrel, headed down in the standings before the management saved the off-season by signing veteran free agents: Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo, who led the National Basketball Association in assists (11.7) for the third-time last season. “It was getting a little tense going down the stretch”.
“We’re not the team that everyone is analytically putting together”, Wade said of the new-look Bulls. Wade’s right to be uncertain if the Bulls can keep the perimeter shooting going, but he’s wrong about it not mattering.
He scored 21 points, matching his high in an Atlanta uniform, and broke open a close game with back-to-back 3-pointers in the fourth.
“I haven’t thought about [the uniform] because I don’t plan on losing”, Wade said. But all three have also shown recent signs of shooting better than at any other point in their career, which matters.
Chicago signed Wade because they knew he could aid their team with big shots. Al Horford chipped in 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the loss, while rookie Jaylen Brown topped 20 minutes for the second night in a row, scoring eight points. “I think I’ve seen that a couple times”.
“I can’t focus over there anymore”, Wade added. “I was caught up in the emotions of my first game at home”. He knocked it down from the right side -cementing the game for Chicago- and delivering a throat slash/scowl combo as the crowd erupted. The Celtics took their first and only lead of the night on an Isaiah Thomas 3-pointer, but with Carter-Williams again playing next to Rondo the Bulls reeled off seven straight points to push the lead back to six, 75-69. Miami had limited him to 30.5 minutes per game and the dividends were 22.5 points per 36 minutes. “So a lot of times in practice I was learning the 1, and it’s pretty hard to learn everybody’s position in one week”.
