Wal-Mart: Coke display stacked like twin towers removed
With the 15th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks just days away, commemorations are being held and displayed across the country.
All of the sodas that were part of the display were Coca-Cola products.
Charles Crowson, a spokesman for Walmart, told the Orlando Weekly that the Coca-Cola Company typically approaches them with display ideas and Walmart either approves them or not.
In memory of the tragic day, a Walmart store in Florida created a display of Coke boxes in the form of the Twin Towers in front of the colors of the USA flag, and a lot of people have raised hell about the image on Twitter.
He told BuzzFeed: ‘We stopped and stared at it like, oh my god. “So we took some pics and went on our way”.
He and his girlfriend quickly saw the conspicuous display – possibly the worst in 15 years of breathtakingly tasteless 9/11 tributes – at the end of an aisle. Crowson also stated that the normal process for putting up these types of displays is that first, Coke comes up with the idea.
Twitter users immediately responded with angry retweets. “We sincerely apologize that anyone was offended or misunderstood its intent, and we have replaced the display”, the company said. Other Twitter users simply said they were speechless and still others posted parodic tweets making fun of the giant retailer.
