New Orleans native Wendell Pierce, an actor who was in the New Orleans-based HBO drama “Treme”, started the non-profit, Pontchartrain Park Community Development Corp., to build new affordable solar and geothermal homes in the area for families displaced by Katrina. So far, he’s succeeded.
The hurricane is considered the costliest natural disaster in US history, with experts estimating more than $100billion of damage was caused.
It tells the story of the Louisiana National Guard’s work and that of Guardsmen from 48 states and territories during Katrina and its aftermath.
“And I get a sense that everybody that came down from other states, they were feeling the same way”, she said.
“It was as if you were seeing this happen to our neighbors, and you get this automatic internal response to want to go out and help”, she said. She says she certainly had never been to Cobb County. “The levees ring the city and we have a pretty good pumping situation”, Landrieu said, reinforcing that The Great Wall is proof of the city taking steps in the right direction.
