Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain to miss 3 weeks
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has defended the club’s medical staff after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott were injured midweek.
Oxlade-Chamberlain picked up a hamstring injury as early as the fifth minute of the game and was replaced by his compatriot Walcott. “We lost two players and after that I had Gabriel and Nacho Monreal on the bench but I couldn’t bring them on because I couldn’t afford to lose any more players”.
Wenger confirmed that both players had suffered muscle injuries, and that it will take 48 hours for the full extent of the damage to be known.
“I still believe the quickest back will be Alex”.
“We were not at the level that is requested to play a team of the quality of Sheffield Wednesday”, the Frenchman told reporters after the match.
“We have to analyse every single case and every single exercise and I think you have to not over-analyse when players are injured”.
The 3-0 loss came in the midst of a few impressive Arsenal form, having defeating Bayern Munich in the Champions League while battling their way to joint-top of the Premier League with Manchester City after victories against Leicester City, Manchester United, Watford and Everton. Both players so far this season, have been disappointing and are yet to convince Wenger on whether they can be relied upon.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is confident of finding a solution to his side’s injury troubles.
According to reports reaching SportingAlert.com, the Arsenal winger felt a bit of tightness in his hamstring and after talking to the team doctors, manager Arsene Wenger decided to make the early substitution.
“The level was too high for the young players”, Wenger said. Already he is missing Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta to injury. We had a lot of the ball but we didn’t make a lot.
They host struggling Nottingham Forest on Saturday as they look to close the gap between themselves and sixth-placed Birmingham City.
