Walcott tips Arsenal team-mate Sanchez to flourish after hat-trick
ALEXIS Sanchez rediscovered his goalscoring touch in spectacular style this afternoon (Saturday) as he scored a stunning hat-trick away at Leicester.
“He showed that in this game and overall I thought we always looked unsafe going forwards”. And Wenger believes Sanchez is back up to speed following his close-season efforts at the Copa America, while his team are ready to challenge City, United and champions Chelsea for the title.
I want us to score goals but I must say Leicester played well and to play a good football game there needs to be two teams. “He tracks back and does a lot for the team”, Walcott told Arsenal’s official website.
Theo Walcott also netted for the Gunners in a free-flowing game that could have easily seen Leicester absorb even more goals.
Wenger gave Sanchez an extended vacation after he led Chile to its first global trophy this summer, though that didn’t stop him from playing him straight away as a substitute in Arsenal’s first Premier League fixture, a 2-0 loss to West Ham in which the attack looked toothless.
Beating the spuds in the Capital One cup last night was just what Arsenal fans and players wanted in order to restore a bit of belief and enthusiasm in a season that has so far failed pretty miserably to live up to expectations.
Arsenal are next in action in the Champions League in midweek when they take on Olympiacos at the Emirates Stadium.
“His dad said he lacks a bit of self-belief and I can confirm that because he is very critical of himself, but that is positive and a sign of top level sportsmen”.
“I’m sure that now he has scored – he’ll soon be back to his very best”.
“I think he is”.
“It’s not easy to score goals when you go behind in matches”.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Arsene Wenger revealed that his South American icon was suffering due to his lack of performance- with the goal-drought affecting his mentality.
Wenger was delighted with Ozil’s assist for Sanchez’s second goal, however, he did express his concern over the poor goal-scoring form of Arsenal FC’s record signing.
