‘Walk to End Alzheimer’s’ raises thousands for care and research
Folks will gather Saturday morning in Ellis Square to raise awareness for brain health, and specifically for Alzheimer’s disease.
“It is a disease that affects the person, and their loved ones, with a diagnosis”, said January Tankersley, manager of special events for the Alzheimer’s Association.
Participants started the day with a ceremony held at Target Field, honoring those affected by the disease.
Someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease every 68 seconds in the United States.
Officials told us that 5.4 million people in the U.S are living with the disease.
The walk will begin at 9 a.m. It is free to be a part of the walk, but donations are encouraged.
The event has helped raise hundreds of millions of dollars for the Alzheimer’s Association, which offers patient care, as well as research to help put an end to the disease.
The money is used for care, support, and research efforts for those impacted by Alzheimer’s.
