Walker Targets Unions For Federal Workers
Walker got a strong reputation among conservatives for standing up to labor unions and Democrats.
“Any economic plan that does not bring our federal labor laws into the 21st century is incomplete”, says Walker in the prepared remarks.
“The vast majority of federal workers do an outstanding job and deserve our appreciation and protection, which they will receive under a Walker administration”.
“Just like President Reagan, I believe we need to drain the swamp in Washington, D.C.”, Walker said. Freedom that allows workers and employers to create flexibility, choice, and innovation in the workplace. Walker said in his plan the NLRB supports pro-union policies at the cost of fair practices toward job creators and as a result makes organizing elections more favorable for the unions.
In the plan, Walker said he would prohibit unions from obtaining dues for political activities from employees.
They haven’t actually been around for all that long, relatively speaking – as late as the Sixties, the concept was generally viewed as absurd.
“Collective bargaining is not a right, it is an expensive entitlement”, he said, speaking with his sleeves rolled up, in between a pair of oversized construction vehicles and in front of a large American flag. Walker delivers his anti-union message under the guise of pro-worker rights.
Remember how he knocked the stuffing out of Wisconsin’s public unions?
AFL-CIO communications director Eric Hauser repeated the insult in a Monday statement to Al Jazeera regarding the candidate’s white paper. “We did it in a blue state, there’s no reason it can’t be done in Washington, and I lay some of that blame on some of the leadership in the Congress”.
“It’s no secret that the Koch Brothers have been using Walker’s busted bandwagon as a vehicle to bully the middle class, the poor and the weak by stripping their unions of all power”.
As president, Walker would eliminate federal employee unions and the National Labor Relations Board, and would make every state a right-to-work state.
Gov. Walker says he wants to do nationally, what he did in Wisconsin, when it comes to weakening public and private sector labor unions.
Labor law experts said such an effort, if successful, would substantially reduce the power of organized labor in America.
“Our plan gets rid of the NLRB – and reassigns the few necessary responsibilities to more fair and balanced areas of the government”, he said.
As he did in Wisconsin, he would act to prevent unions from automatically siphoning dues out of workers’ paychecks. “The commonsense reforms outlined here will focus the federal government’s role to ensure that special-interest loopholes are closed once and for all”. The moment may be ripe for such an appeal, given Americans’ growing sense that Big Government is a game rigged to favor insiders and big spenders – an attitude found on both Left and Right.
It’s also virtually impossible to fire workers for even the most egregious problems. “Wouldn’t it be nice if they were working to help taxpayers?”
Martin O’Malley, the former governor of Maryland and a Democratic candidate for president, also hit out at Walker’s proposals.
Scott Walker has been grilling up burgers and hot dogs, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle across Iowa and smiling broadly with supporters for selfies all summer.
