Walker Tweets Entry into Presidential Race
Scott Walker, who recently visited Israel on a self-described “listening tour”, announced Monday that he is running for president.
Walker joins a wide field of announced Republican presidential candidates. “We fought, and we won”, he said in the message.
Washington: Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker officially confirmed on Monday he was joining the crowded field of Republicans jostling for the party’s 2016 nomination as U.S. presidential candidate. (I’ve shown) we can do both.
“I’m in. I’m running for president because Americans deserve a leader who will fight and win for them”, he tweeted.
Walker, who received national attention for his battle with his state’s unions and surviving a 2012 recall election, is scheduled to make an announcement speech in Waukesha, Wisconsin, later in the day.
The brevity of Trumka’s statement suggests that while the union leader may despise Walker and his policies, he does not consider his campaign announcement an event of great public interest or concern.
A collection of national surveys about the Republican presidential campaign now shows him trailing only former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, the son and brother of two US presidents.
Walker said voters “want a new, fresh face to lead this country going forward”. “That’s why he has such a huge following”. While on a trip to London, he dodged a question about whether he believes in the theory of evolution. In the Republican discipline, there are a number of that are superb troop, however they haven’t finished everyone combats. He also has said he would nullify any previous agreement that allows Iran to develop a nuclear weapon and secure the border with Mexico.
Citizen Action of Wisconsin and Center for American Progress Action Fund attacked his “life-threatening efforts to sabotage health care reform” in a morning conference call. And he backed a bill banning abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, after saying during his re-election campaign previous year that a decision whether to have an abortion should be between a woman and her doctor. His three governor’s races have also left him with a massive donor database – more than 300,000 names – that have helped his shatter state fundraising records. If he locked in that status with an adequate performance in New Hampshire and a stronger one in more ideologically friendly South Carolina, other conservatives are likely to drop out. Because of his father’s job, Walker’s family moved to Plainfield, Iowa, three years later, then to Delavan, Wisconsin, when he was 10. “But that’s not an issue I talk about”.
