Walmart is selling two $10 Android handsets with 2009-era specs
This smartphone by LG runs an old form of Android (4.4 Kitkat) that will doubtlessly never be updated again, leaving you with a possibly powerless gadget.
You might be dreaming of the time when smartphones would be available at the price of feature phones. It’s not a huge discount – Amazon has the phone’s MSRP as $60 bucks, so you get what you pay for.
However, if you want a bare-bones yet functional smartphone for less than the price of dinner, we’re sure you know where to find a Walmart.
Walmart is now selling a TracFone-branded LG smartphone that costs .82 (it also ships free if your online order total tops $50). Traditionally, Tracfone has been primarily a prepaid carrier, meaning there were no contracts, but the new phones specify that they are locked into a one-year contract with monthly service fees.
A few of the other specifications of the Sunrise L15G and Lucky LG16 smartphones, which are available from Walmart at an unbeatable $10 price-tag, include a 3.8-inch touch screen; 1.2GHz dual-core processer; and 3-megapixl camera. Also, there is a 3-megapixel rear camera sensor with VGA video recording support. The LG phone offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microUSB 2.0 connectivity options as well. “There are a bunch of stories going around today about a supposed $10 Android phone being sold at Walmart, which seem to be driven by foreign journalists who don’t understand how Tracfone or Walmart work”. Google is already working on its Android One initiative to expand the presence of Android by offering affordable smartphones. That being said, the new smartphone strives to persuade a few feature phone users to start keeping Android in their pockets.
